On Sunday 16th of September we embarked on our Reels on Wheels show for the Portobello Film Festival in association with Bikeminded.
We went on a six and half mile ride around North Kensington taking in Portobello, the Trellick Tower, Goldborne and Notting Dale. We explored the history of film in the area and looked at films like Absolute Beginners, Paddington, Notting Hill, Withnail and I, Pressure and many more.
On the way we re-created the long tracking shot from Notting Hill (the one where Hugh Grant casually walks down Portobello across the seasons of a year), we recited some Hamlet from Withnail and I and we heard a specially commissioned spoken word response to the films Pressure and Absoulte Beginners from the brilliant poet Desree Gumbs-Carty. At the end of the tour we also had a go at making our own version of the Hollywood sign! As part of the film festival we also made our own film as we went along the route and as soon as that's finished I will post it here!
Our thanks to Marina at Bikeminded, all of the Marshals, Philippa, the Portobello Film Festival, Desree Gumbs-Carty, Safaa Benson Effiom, Josh Clarke and John O'Connor. And last but not least our intrepid and wonderful audience - we can't wait to welcome you back for Christmas! xxx
